Science
At Finedon Schools, we aim to inspire and equip all our pupils to be lifelong learners who hold high aspirations and contribute positively as global citizens. The science curriculum supports us in this endeavour: it nurtures children’s curiosity and excitement about natural phenomena, encourages children to be inquisitive about our universe and promotes compassion and respect for all living things and the world they inhabit.
During their time in Finedon Schools, children will acquire and develop the key knowledge which has been identified within each unit and progressively build their scientific vocabulary as well as their understanding and application of scientific enquiry skills. Throughout the programmes of study, we ensure that all learners are provided with opportunities to recap prior knowledge, vocabulary and skills before new content is taught. As a result of this approach, new knowledge consistently builds upon prior learning giving pupils the opportunity to embed core concepts and make connections across the scientific curriculum. Across both schools, the skills of working scientifically are progressively built upon and consistently linked to statistics within mathematics; all children are taught to understand data and how it can be used to prove or disprove a scientific enquiry question.
Please note, for Y1 and Y2 we work on a two-year rolling programme. Cycle A is 2024-25 and Cycle B is 2023-24.
